Chelsea agree €100m deal for Mykhailo Mudryk, hijack Arsenal move for winger

Chelsea have reached an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk to sign Mykhailo Mudryk.

Representatives of Chelsea, including director of global talent and transfers Paul Winstanley and a senior member of the board, have traveled to Turkey for face-to-face talks with Shakhtar Donetsk, where the Ukrainian club are hosting a training camp.

A deal has now been reached on a fixed fee of €70m (£62m), with a further €30m (£26.5m) in add-ons. Personal terms have also been agreed between Chelsea and the 22-year-old, with a seven-plus-year contract still to be signed.

Shakhtar’s public position is that they believe Mudryk is worth €100m (£88m) and they have now reached that price.

Mudryk has been told by Shakhtar directly in recent days of Chelsea’s growing interest in signing him. The sentiment around the situation is that Shakhtar and Mudryk are ready to close the deal.

The quality of supplements offered by any potential suitor and the expected speed of payouts for Mudryk are a priority for the Ukrainian side.

Later on Saturday, Shakhtar confirmed details of the potential transfer and meeting in Turkey.

Mudryk caught the eye in the Champions League group stages with three goals and two assists in six appearances.

He was a key target for Premier League leaders Arsenal, but Chelsea have now moved to strengthen Graham Potter’s struggling side. Potter, whose Chelsea side are 10th in the league with just one win in their last five games, is believed to like Mudryk as a player. They say he led the case.

As well as his Champions League form, Mudryk has also impressed in the Ukrainian Premier League, registering seven goals and six assists as his side Shakhtar sit second in the table.
